Wim Van Lerberghe
MD, DTM&PH, PhD, was trained as a medical doctor in Belgium. He started his career working in Mozambique as a district medical doctor in 1976. He worked in a number of developing countries, including DRC, Morocco, Tanzania, Djibouti, Thailand. From 1993 to 2003 he was professor of health policy at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium where he led the department of Public Health. He joined WHO in 2003. He has been the main author of World Health Reports 2005 and 2008. He became the Director of the Department of Health Systems Policies and Workforce at WHO-HQ, a department that deals with National Planning and Policy Development, Service Delivery, Human Resources for Health and Aid Effectiveness, including the secretariat of the International Health partnership is located. He joined the Instituto de Higiene e Medecina Tropical of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa in 2013.
